“There’s something pretty magical about The Bitter End. I remember my first time attending a Singer-Songwriter Session when I was about 11 years old, and seeing the spirit in each artist’s eyes as they poured their hearts out on stage through original music. Watching them made me think; Wow—That’s what I want to do.”
Katherine Evans is a 20-year old singer/songwriter from Westchester, NY. She found her passion for music at an early age — learning to play the violin when she was just 3 years old. By the time Katherine was 8, she held her first full-length, solo concert at the prominent musical school, Hoff Barthelson, in Scarsdale, NY. Growing up, Katherine also spent time doing musical theater and acting. She did professional voiceover work and starred in a couple independent films, but most of all, Katherine was drawn to the stage. She realized early on that her favorite aspect of performing was singing, and she started to write original songs at the age of 14.
Katherine is currently part of the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. In her first year, she majored in jazz voice, and in her sophomore year, she changed her major to music business and added songwriting as a minor. While singing jazz is a passion of Katherine’s, more than anything, she longs to create. She joined the Bruce Hornsby Creative American Music program, in which she has made numerous connections while studying songwriting.
Katherine is a singer of many genres, but her style is most affiliated with folk-rock. She is a lead member of Big City folk Band with four other musicians, where she plays fiddle and sings. Katherine doesn’t limit herself to one genre—she still loves to sing jazz and has a huge appreciation for pop and R&B. This past year, Katherine collaborated with hip-hop artist, Merrick Stein, on his single, Rise, demonstrating her skills in creating bluesy riffs and soulful melodies.
Katherine’s intimate style, yet bold lyrics captivate her audience. She has a very personal presence as she takes the stage and dives into her songs with strength and a determination to connect with her listeners. Using vivid imagery and smooth, velvety vocals, she delivers messages through her music that are meaningful and thought-provoking. She is extremely excited to play at the Bitter End on July 26th, and is honored to be artist of the month.
